About Sam
Sam Bergman is a student at Grand Valley State University, working toward and a Bachelor of Music in piano performance with a minor in computer science. He currently studies under Dr. Sookkyung Cho. He has received scholarships such as the Edith Blodgett Piano Scholarship, the Upper Division Scholarship, and the Hills Scholarship at Grand Valley, as well as the Christopher Zeman Award from GRML. He has twice earned second place in the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony Concerto Competition and secured second prize in the Michigan Music Teachers’ Association Student Achievement Testing. In 2024, he was a scholarship fellow at the Lake George Music Festival in Lake George, New York, where he studied with Sun-A Park and Henry Kramer. In summer 2025, he participated in the Valencia International Performing Arts Summer Festival in Valencia, Spain, studying under Boris Slutsky, Juan Lago, and Jan Jiracek von Arnim, as well as the Orford Music Academy under David Fung.
As a piano technician, he has studied under Dave Postma, Piano Technician. He is a member of the Piano Technician’s Guild, Lansing MI Chapter. He has studied aural and ETD tuning, as well as regulation and rebuilding.
